Species
Paper wasp: the open, upside-down umbrella nest under eaves, in shrubs and on pergolas. Defensive within about a metre of the nest. Painful sting.
Mud dauber: solitary, builds mud tubes on walls and in sheds. Essentially harmless and does a good job on spiders.
European wasp: a serious pest. Yellow and black, nests in the ground, in wall cavities and in roof voids. Aggressive, stings repeatedly, and attracted to meat and sugary drinks. Report any suspected sighting.
Treatment
We treat the nest directly, usually at dusk when the colony is home, using a dust that the returning foragers spread through the nest. The nest is then removed where it's safe to do so.
